Sport is a social and positive part of Infant School life at Clifton High School, serving as a dynamic force that brings joy and a sense of belonging to every member of our community.
Sport in the Infant School builds upon the foundation of the teaching they have received in the Hive Pre-School. It offers structured progression across Physical Education (PE), Games and Swimming while maintaining the inclusive ethos that welcomes every child to participate at their own individual level.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION (PE)
Pupils receive weekly, curriculum-based PE lessons, delivered by specialist teachers who focus on encouraging fundamental movement patterns, balance, agility and broad skill development.
We provide the building blocks for confidence, resilience, problem-solving and enjoyment, expecting these skills to later support children in their GCSE and A level pathways.
Children take advantage of our on-site facilities, which include a gymnasium, climbing wall, outdoor MUGA, studio spaces and the Astroturf School Lawn.
GAMES
From Year 2 upwards, structured Games Lessons introduce children to team sports such as tennis, tag rugby, cricket, hockey, rugby, football and netball.
Lessons are split into development and performance pathways to ensure that pupils who wish to progress competitively can do so, while all pupils can enjoy accessible, inclusive sport.
At this stage, children travel to Coombe Dingle, benefitting from professional surfaces and the space to develop tactical understanding of the termly sports.
SWIMMING PROGRAMME
The Learn to Swim programme forms a major part of the Infant School sports provision. It teaches water safety, technique development and early race skills. Our on-site swimming pool gives children access to structured lessons that teach confidence and excellence. helping us to deliberately keep them ahead of national expectations.
