Whether you are joining Clifton High School for the first time, or you are moving up from our Junior School, you are in safe hands. It marks the beginning of new experiences and opportunities for pupils as they continue their educational and co-curricular pursuits.

We are delighted that you are considering joining our School community whereby you will be guided through the admissions process below. After taking the first step, you will be supported on an individual basis by our friendly team.


Our Admissions Process

1. VISIT US

Your journey begins with a warm invitation to one of our upcoming Open Events, or by scheduling a private tour. Visiting the School site enables you to speak to our current pupils and teachers, see our excellent facilities and get a feel for our vibrant community.

2. REGISTER WITH US

Please complete and submit our registration form. Thereafter, the Admissions Team will contact you to arrange a Taster Day.

3. TASTER DAY AND REFERENCE

Your child will be invited to a Year 7 Experience Day, where they are able to meet friends and experience, first hand, the joy of a typical Clifton High School day. There is no assessment, it is simply an opportunity for both parties to ensure the School is the right fit for your child.

During the Experience Day, our Head of School will meet with small groups of children to get to know them on a more personal basis. 

4. ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS

Any children who attends an Experience Day will be sent an invitation to attend Entrance Examinations in January (11th January or 18th January 2025) . When registered, you will be able to confirm your interest in a Scholarship (Music, Sports and Individual Brilliance) or a Bursary, which is means-tested on household finances. We will also contact the child's current school to obtain a confidential reference. 

The Entrance Examinations help us to understand your child's strengths, ensuring a fair assessment of their abilities. At present, these examinations are in English, Mathematics, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning and prepared by Clifton High School's Head of English and Mathematics. We do not provide families with past papers. 

From results of the Entrance Examinations, school references and reports all candidates are considered for an Academic Scholarship.

5. SCHOLARSHIP ASSESSMENTS

*Candidates for Music and Sport Scholarships will be invited to their respective assessments in the first two weeks of January.

Music candidates are expected to typically working at Grade 3 or above in at least one instrument, and Sports candidates are expected to work at County level in at least one sport. 

For those who have applied for an Individual Brilliance Scholarship, they will be asked to provide a portfolio or evidence of their talent or skill to the Admissions Department by 10th January 2025.

Shortlisted Academic Scholarship pupils will be contacted to attend an interview with the Head of School by 17th January 2025.* 

6. OFFER PACKET SENT

After the extensive process, offer letters will be mailed by our Admissions Team to successful candidates at the end of January, celebrating your child's achievements and formally inviting you to join our community.

Entry into the School in Year 7 is a competitive entry point and for those pupils thar are not offered an inital place, we will administer a waiting list for entry based on the results of the Entrance Examinations.

7. ACCEPTANCE LETTER

Finally, the choice is yours to accept the offer and embark upon the next stage of the journey with us by becoming a member of our Clifton High School family. Should you wish to accept, you will be required to complete the acceptance paperwork and secure your child's place by making a deposit payment.

8. TRANSITION DAY AND INFORMATION EVENTS

Once officially enrolled in our School, children will be invited to attend their first fun-filled transition event, ‘Six Mix’, and parents to a Year Ahead Information Event. These social opportunities allow families to connect and learn in more detail about the opportunities that come with being a member of Clifton High School.

Our friendly Admissions Team are always happy to answer any further questions families may have and will provide you with the information you need about School life, purchasing uniforms and arrangements for your child’s start date. Upon entry into the School, your child’s class teacher will become the first point of contact.
