Our mission in the Sixth Form is to ensure all students depart Clifton High School with a sense of individual achievement, knowing that their talents and strengths have been nurtured and their ambitions realised.
Miss Katherine Rich, Head of Sixth Form
Clifton High School’s Sixth Form is distinctive in its approach to co-education for 16–18 year-olds. The outstanding teaching and wealth of co-curricular opportunities offered, set within our modern, purpose-built Walters Sixth Form Centre, enable our students to develop skills and passions beyond the traditional. Through our bespoke provision, we invest in our students as individuals, affording them a genuinely holistic, wellbeing-focused education whilst building firm foundations for their futures as adults.
Our values of Curiosity, Empathy, Love and Direction underpin all elements of our students’ journeys throughout Clifton High School's Sixth Form which is fundamentally, the most formative phase of their School career. In preparation for their next steps into higher education and beyond, students are encouraged to be intellectually curious in all that they do, holding high aspirations for personal academic achievement. Through dynamic and engaging A level lessons, a range of optional ancillary courses and the diverse opportunities available for learning outside the classroom, Clifton High School prides itself in developing our students’ thirst for knowledge and sense of direction.
Students are actively encouraged to become independent learners within the Sixth Form, reflected in the greater choice they have over what they study, how they occupy their time and when and where they choose to work. Alongside this freedom, they continue to benefit from our outstanding pastoral support system, overseen by an experienced and dedicated tutor team who meet with their tutees daily, the Head of Higher Education and Careers, as well as the Head and Deputy Head of Sixth Form. Small tutor sets and class sizes, together with our commitment to realising each pupil’s full potential, ensures that our Sixth Form staff truly invest in students as individuals, forging strong relationships that support their personal growth and long-term success.
As a selective School, we are extremely proud of the excellent academic results our students consistently achieve, and the value we add to students’ academic outcomes consistently set us above other parallel schools. In 2024, 58% of pupils achieved A*-B grades and 31% A*-A. Individually, over 10% of students achieved top grade A*-A grades in all their selected subjects. We very much value our students for who they become as well as what they achieve, firmly believing that from happiness and self-confidence, success will follow. A further insight can be found on our Examinations Results Page.
Our Sixth Form is also a place in which students are encouraged to prepare for their future roles as global citizens, leaders and change-makers, equipped with the skills and attributes needed to succeed and make a positive impact in our ever-changing world. We encourage our students to engage with the wider School community as Head Prefects, House Captains, Sports Captains, or as ambassadors for causes close to their heart; we currently appoint Prefects to lead on Diversity and Inclusion, Environmental Change and Sustainability, Events, Peer Support and Charity and Outreach. Many of our students invest their own time to support our School Adventure Programme or to lead activities with younger pupils. Whatever a student’s passion beyond the curriculum, we aim to help them flourish. Through these experiences and responsibilities, Clifton High School’s Sixth Form students grow into ever more proactive, confident and socially aware individuals, with strong values and transferrable skills aplenty.
The Walters Sixth Form Centre is a space in which students genuinely feel at home, supported by staff and peers in an environment that befits their developing maturity and independence. Opened in 2023, our Sixth Form Centre accommodates not only multiple tutor rooms and quiet workspaces but also offers an in-house café, a student kitchen and a light and open common room in which to socialise. Designed to provide a welcoming and spacious central area for our students, lifelong friendships and special memories are built here and, as an all-through School, we continually enjoy the close links that many of our former students retain with us after they graduate.
We would be delighted to welcome you into our wonderful community.
