CLIFTON HIGH SCHOOL SIXTH FORM STUDENTS EXCEL

- IN THE EXTENDED PROJECT QUALIFICATION (EPQ)

Excelling at the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)

We congratulate our Year 13 students for excellent results in their Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). To put it into perspective, 100% of Year 13 students achieved an A* - C grade in their EPQ and nearly 50% of students achieved an A* and A grade.

The EPQ can be used as evidence on a students’ UCAS application forms to indicate their passion for subjects together with outstanding academic ability. They embark on their own research journey, at thend of which they have to produce a 5,000-word essay or create a product alongside a 1,500-word essay.

Essentially, the EPQ is an exercise in independent research, allowing students to learn more about their favourite topics. While most students focus on a part of their A level subjects that they enjoy, it could be on something totally unrelated and can be about absolutely anything. No matter what a student is interested in, if they can find an academic way of exploring it, then they are good to go.

Our students topics were both fascinating and engaging, to include:

  • evaluating why there is a diagnosis gap in autism between men and women
  • assessing the most prominent benefit of therapy dogs that are working with children
  • evaluating whether music sampling is ethically and legally appropriate for the modern-day producer

I am incredibly proud of those of our Sixth Form students who completed their EPQ, each receiving excellent results that support and contribute towards their UCAS points in being the equivalent of an AS level. For me, the greatest benefit of these qualifications is that they provide the kind of research skills I wish I had when completing my MBA!
