Year 9 pupils had an exciting day learning about the intricacies of aircraft flight and design on Friday during the Flying Start Challenge Day.
All pupils split into teams and spent the morning designing, building and testing their gliders. In the afternoon, they then participated in a ‘fly-off’ in the Main Hall; launching their gliders from the stage.
The furthest glider flight reached 16.1m, flown by Team PFG. This distance was closely followed by Team Jam with a flight of 15.7m. In third place was Team Dali Llama with a flight of 11.3m. All three winning teams have been invited to participate in the regional final at the Bristol Aerospace Museum on Tuesday 6th February.
The six visiting Airbus Engineers said how much they enjoyed the day and were impressed by the pupils’ enthusiasm, behaviour and ingenuity. Well done to everyone who took part!
